Spanish Language Programs
Research by the U. S. Census Bureau indicates that by the year 2010, Hispanics will be the largest minority group in the United States. Anticipating the demands created by these changing demographics, Partners in Training Consultants have developed law enforcement Spanish training courses to address the emerging needs of Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies. Classes are targeted towards law enforcement executives, trainers and officers. Classes focus on needed law enforcement skills in Spanish: arrest techniques, interviewing skills, officer safety and survival and cultural diversity.
Programs are conducted at export and regional locations throughout the nation. Due to the intensive nature of the programs, and need for extensive practical exercises, class size is limited. For additional information regarding these programs, or having a custom-designed program presented at your agency, please contact:

Spanish Instructor Training Program (80-hours)
Our most comprehensive and difficult program by far. This program is divided into two parts. The first forty hours of this eighty-hour program are dedicated to instructional methodology found to be effective in teaching. During the second forty hours of this program, the student/instructor will instruct an actual class of law enforcement Spanish to non-Spanish speaking officers! This courses certifies personnel to instruct up to a three day Spanish law enforcement program for their agency. Student/instructors will be provided with training materials, Power Point presentations, lesson plans and student handouts. All registrants must pass an interview prior to acceptance into the program, and must use Partners in Training Consultants training materials when conducting subsequent classes.
Spanish Immersion Programs
Basic Immersion (100 hours, 10 days)
Intermediate/Advanced Local Immersion (70 hours)
Advanced Total Immersion (70 hours)
The basic 10-day Spanish Immersion for Law Enforcement is designed to provide an in-depth Spanish language training experience. After the second day of the program, students are only permitted to speak Spanish. Students stay on-site during the training and "live" the language and culture. Five tenses of Spanish are introduced during this program. The Intermediate/Advanced Local Immersion program is conducted in the United States and can be exported to any location! This program is designed for students proficient in Spanish, but requiring detailed training in job specific terminology. During the program, students will be introduced to 16 Spanish tenses, and understand the broad range of the Latino culture. Students participate in a mock trial at the conclusion of the program conducted entirely in Spanish! The Advanced Total Immersion program is conducted in Hermosillo, Mexico where the students stay with a pre-screened host Mexican family. Students are introduced to 16 Spanish tenses with the added benefit of additional culture and language skills from daily use. At the conclusion of the program, students "shadow" a public safety official in Mexico.
Emergency Medical Spanish
This twenty hour block of instruction is designed for the Doctor, Nurse, EMT or Paramedic who may be involved with emergency medical encounters with individuals who do not speak English. The course will focus on gathering information to assess the needs of the patient using "answer in the question" techniques and questions requiring yes or no answers. The course also includes basic vocabulary to obtain patient information.
Emergency Telecommunications-Spanish Program
This 16-hour program is designed to provide the emergency telecommunicator with knowledge in obtaining critical information from Spanish speakers calling for emergency services. The monologue learned by the graduate will allow the telecommunicator to control the conversation, determine the services needed and giving the appropriate response. This is more than a course, it's a liability issue.
Corrections and Transportation Officer-Spanish
This course is designed to provide correctional or prisoner transportation officers with key words and phrases in Spanish which will be indispensable to their everyday duties. The graduates of this 16-hour program will have better insight into the Hispanic culture, knowledge of basic (polite) commands, arrest expressions, the ability to readily identify dangerous expressions and situations, and obtain inmate information.
Three and Five Day Spanish Programs
We offer a variety of three and five day Spanish programs in different levels of difficulty, and can be designed for a variety of fields. For example, we conduct courses for police, emergency medical personnel, non-sworn personnel, dispatchers and call-takers. We also conducted specialized training programs designed for pretrial services, probation, parole, corrections and detention personnel.
Officer Survival and Communication
This 24-hour class is designed to acquaint law enforcement personnel with the rules of Spanish pronunciation, street/slang Spanish, arrest expressions, commands, cultural information, and give them techniques for gathering basic information from witnesses, victims, and suspects.
Introductory Spanish for Law Enforcement
This class expands on the Officer Survival and Communication course to a 40-hour format. Greater emphasis is placed on interviewing, and students are introduced to basic Spanish grammar as it addresses the needs of the law enforcement officer.
